Solicitors, Lawyers or Attorneys? What's the difference?
Solicitors are Lawyers who give legal advice to clients and prepare legal documents and cases. Solicitors often specialise in different areas: i.e. family law solicitors and personal injury solicitors. They do not usually appear in court.
A Lawyer is a person who is qualified to advise people about the law and represent them in court. In personal injury compensation claims these terms are usually used interchangeably i.e. Personal Injury Solicitor and Personal Injury Lawyer.
An Attorney is somebody legally empowered to represent another person, or act on their behalf; it is also the American English word for a British lawyer, these are not interchangeable terms.
You may hear many terms: accident lawyer; accident claim lawyer; accident injury lawyer; injury lawyer; or even more specific terms such as a medical malpractice solicitor or a work injury lawyer, but don't worry these all come under the umbrella of “personal injury solicitors”.
