What is Raynaud's Disease / Phenomenon?
Raynaud's disease or Raynaud's phenomenon is a common vascular disorder affecting the blood supply to the extremities; fingers, toes, nose and ears when exposed to temperature changes or stress. During a Raynaud's attack the blood circulation to your hands is limited. The effect felt in Raynaud's is cold, painful white fingers with pins and needles, and numbness.
The condition is described as being either Primary Raynaud's, the commonest form, where there is no apparent cause, or Secondary Raynaud's, where it is associated with an underlying disease or causative factor; such as Vibration White Finger (VWF) & the Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS).
