What is the Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?
The Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is a condition that causes pain, numbness, and a burning / tingling sensation in your hand and fingers. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is caused by compression of the median nerve, which runs through a structure in the hand known as the "Carpal Tunnel" & it is classed as an Upper Limb Disorder.
The median nerve has two functions & explains the physical symptoms of the Carpal Tunnel Syndrome: relaying physical sensations, such as touch, from your hand to your brain, and nerve signals from your brain to your hand, allowing movement. Any compression to the median nerve will disrupt these nerve signals, causing a diminutive sense of touch and movement.
Causes of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome can include diseases such as arthritis, diabetes or obesity; or it may be caused by any form of damage to the wrist such as a fracture or repetitive movement & compression of the hand.
