What is Asbestosis?
Asbestosis is a chronic respiratory disease which can take several years to develop from the initial Asbestos exposure. (However this can be much accelerated in heavy smokers). A history of continuous high level exposure to Asbestos is usual in the development of Asbestosis.
Asbestosis is characterised by scarring (fibrosis) of the lung tissue and is due to the direct agitation by the Asbestos fibres. Asbestosis is incurable but treatment is available to relieve symptoms.

Asbestos the Hidden Killer?
Asbestos comprises of minute mineral silicate fibres. These can't be broken down or removed by the body and are highly irritant. Asbestos fibres cause scarring to the tissue linings of the lung, making gaseous exchange & breathing difficult. Prolonged high level exposure to asbestos may lead to Asbestosis, benign or diffuse Pleural Thickening, Asbestos induced lung cancer; also known as Mesothelioma.

Such as those who worked extensively with asbestos (e.g. repairing boilers, demolishing buildings, and asbestos removal workers), or even those who have lived close to asbestos factories.

What should I do if I am suffering from Asbestosis?
- The first step if you are suffering from an Asbestos related lung disease would be to contact us so we can assess your claim for compensation and advise you on whether you will be eligible to claim.
- It is vital to establish a relationship between your symptoms and possible exposure to asbestos. If you have not done so already the second step will be to see your doctor who will be able to establish a link to asbestos.
- Breathlessness and crackling of the lungs are key symptoms of Asbestos related lung diseases. To confirm Lung function tests will probably be performed alongside a CT scan, chest X-ray or biopsy if Mesothelioma is expected.
- Further to this any medical(s) instigated by our solicitors will cost you nothing, they will be paid for by the solicitor and claimed back as a disbursement from the other side.
